Today I’d like to introduce you to the lovely couple behind Tino & Pip Photography. I met Penny & Martin a good few months back on a freezing cold day in a lovely little restaurant on the beach. I first met Penny on Twitter and she is as lovely and down to earth in ‘real-life’ as she comes across on Twitter. As you all know by now ... I just love Penny’s blog: JUNK SHOP BRIDE, but I will let you read about them yourself ...

We are Penny and Martin, and we met about 6 years ago whilst working for one of the UK’s leading portrait studios. We happened to work together on a wedding a few years later, and it went so well that Tino&Pip Photography was born! Unlike many couples who are wedding photographers, we did things a bit upside down – the relationship started a while after we had been in business! Spending more time with each other meant that we discovered our tastes and style were really similar, as well as our sense of humour and fun, so love bloomed and now we are planning our own wedding! We both love buying stuff to decorate our flat – from junk shops to boot fairs and charity shops – and then giving it a bit of a facelift to add our own style. We also love our record collection, DVD box sets, chocolate, Nutella, a bit more chocolate and maybe a thousand cups of tea a day!
Tell us a bit about your business and what you offer …
We are wedding, portrait and commercial photographers, based in the Brighton/Eastbourne area, and covering the whole of the South East. We really enjoy the variety of work we get, and find that it keeps us inspired. Our style is a combination of photojournalistic and fine art coverage, documenting the character, splendour, love and laughter a wedding day unfolds. We are head over heels for all things wedding (In fact we have our own little wedding blog - Junk Shop Bride!), so we love to chat plans and ideas! Building relationships with our couples is the part of our job that we enjoy the most, and through getting to them; what makes them tick, smile, giggle, we can provide more bespoke coverage of their special day. We love couples who, like us, want to do things their way and who truly value great photography!
Why are you different?
We feel that what we offer is an experience. We make our shoots as fun as possible because we want people to really enjoy them as well as having beautiful photographs to remember them by! We have our own photographic style too, blending fine art and photojournalistic styles in our own unique way! We don’t do ‘posing’, even our group shots are fun and focus on interaction! We are utter perfectionists – every image we present is lovingly retouched, and it took us a year and a half to fall in love with a wedding album; one that met our expectations of being an incredible tactile experience as well as a visual one! We even have renowned illustrator Lucy Ledger on board to help us create each bespoke album design.
What inspires you?
Visual aesthetic combined with soul – it’s great if something looks good, but when it has a history, a meaning or just a general feeling within it then it becomes elevated beyond its physical appearance. For example, classic cars or vintage furniture give that feeling. That’s why wedding and family photography is so important to us – we are afforded the perfect opportunity to create stunning visual images with deep meaning behind them. How many other jobs offer that?!
What top tip, relevant to your service area, do you have for couples tying the knot?
Make sure that you are comfortable with your photographer; after all they’ll probably be spending most of your day with you! Also, and this is perhaps more specific to our style of photography, forget we’re there - we’re not looking for photos where you’re beaming at the camera, but focussing instead on the natural smiles which come from you enjoying the day!
Until next time ...
