Anytime ... Anywhere

I thought I would follow-on a little from my first blog of introductions and give a little more about the things I believe in ... or feel strongly about!

It wasn't long after I started 'tweeting' when I came across a retweet to sign a petition. My curiosity got the better of me and I had a peek at what it was all about. I'm glad I did! It turned out to be something so brilliant I got right on to signing!

So what is it all about then ...
Well, did you know that open air weddings are not permitted in England and Wales? (Apparently Scotland have their own laws which are far more relaxed.) The law states that a marriage ceremony venue must have a roof, be moored to its foundations, and be licensed by the local registrar. It also states that the ceremony must take place between 8am and 6pm. But ... what if you want to get married under the big oak tree in your family's garden ... or one of the many beautiful castle ruins dotted all over the country? According to the law ... that's too bad and unless you obey, your marriage will not be recognised.

Penny from Tino&Pip Photography had her dreams shattered when she found out about these laws and in September 2010, together with partner Martin, she formed The Any Campaign so that everyone in this country can have the wedding of their dreams.

They learned that, in 2002 there was a Government White Paper that proposed to relax these laws, but it was put on the backburner before anything came of it. Then in 2005 a ‘consultation document’ was published proposing these modernisations, but so far, no timetable has been announced.

1000 signatures are needed and so far 561 have been collected. Will your signature be one of them?

Until next time ...

Thanks to Penny and Martin for their in-put and giving me the opportunity to write about this worthy cause!

  1. I thought it was a big step forward when they relaxed the rules on where you could get married a few years ago (before that I think you had to get married either in church or reg office?). But I've never understood why our law is so restrictive on this. Thanks for entering the blog carnival :-)

  2. It is hard to understand ... especially when you think that Scotland is part of the UK but has completely different laws regarding marriage ~ Cx

  3. Thanks so much for sharing this fab post Candice! The laws are just so silly and archaic- we should all be allowed the wedding of our dreams! Px
